4 New English Language Tests Approved

The four additional language tests now recognized by IRCC are CELPIP General, CAEL, PTE Academic, and TOEFL iBT Test. All applicants must demonstrate their abilities in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through these tests.

For CELPIP General, applicants must achieve a minimum score equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark 7 in each of the four language speaking abilities. To meet the language proficiency requirements, CAEL and Pearson PTE Academic tests necessitate a minimum score of 60, while the Educational Testing Service (ETS) TOEFL iBT Test requires a minimum score of 83.

It is important to emphasize that these tests must be conducted in-person, and online or remotely proctored tests will not be considered valid for SDS applicants.

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) provides an accelerated processing pathway for study permit applications, specifically designed for students from designated countries. To qualify for the SDS, applicants must hold legal residency in the specified countries including Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago or Vietnam.

To be eligible for SDS, students must provide a copy of their acceptance letter from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI), a confirmation document for the upfront medical exam, proof of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000, proof of payment of first-year tuition fees, language test results (within two years) demonstrating an IELTS score of 6 in English or NCLC 7 for French, and submit their application at a Visa Application Centre (VAC).
