Sean Fraser, the Immigration Minister of Canada, recently made an announcement regarding the implementation of category-specific selection draws for candidates in the Express Entry system. These draws aim to attract more skilled workers in specific occupations that are in high demand in Canada. The IRCC believes that by targeting individuals with strong French language proficiency or work experience in key sectors such as Healthcare, STEM professions, Trades, Transport, Agriculture, and Agri-food, they can support Canada’s commitment to welcoming individuals in occupations that are in demand across the country.
The implementation of category-based draws, resulting from changes to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in June 2022, is expected to begin this year. These changes will enable the minister to select immigrants based on essential attributes that align with Canada’s economic priorities. Consequently, this is considered the opportune time to pursue immigration to Canada.
