Biometric Data Submission Now Mandatory for Canada PR Applicants
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced an update to the process of applying for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR). From June 14, 2023, all PR applicants must provide biometric data. This rule applies even if they had previously provided biometrics for a temporary residency application.
The decision comes as a part of Canada’s plan to modernize its immigration system, aligning it with international standards. The biometric data will be used for identity verification, background checks, and fraud prevention, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of the immigration process.
The Procedure for Submitting Biometrics
Applicants are required to go to a designated biometrics collection service point for providing their biometric information. The Canadian government has ensured that the process will be simple and convenient, offering clear instructions for the submission of biometrics.
Who Must Provide Biometrics?
As of June 14, 2023, biometrics submission is mandatory for those applying for:
- A visitor visa
- A work or study permit (U.S. nationals excluded)
- Permanent residence
- Refugee or asylum status
